The police force and sleuths of intelligence agencies went on a high alert after more than a dozen hand grenades were found lying unclaimed in the Cantonment area of Ramnagari Ayodhya on Monday afternoon.
The personnel of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) along with other senior officers, including officials of Military Intelligence, rushed to the spot and safely took all the grenades in their custody and were making further investigation.
The area is said to be near the military firing range and as the grenades had no pins or fuses, it is apprehended that the grenades might be those which did not explode during practice by military personnel.
Reports from Ayodhya said that about 18 hand grenades were found scattered in the bushes in the Nirmali Kund intersection of the district on Monday morning. The top police officers of the district reached the spot as soon as they got information about these hand grenades found scattered like fruits in a pit on the side of the road. The news of recovery of grenades also created panic in the area.
It may be mentioned that security remains very tight in the district after the terrorist attack at Shri Ram Lalla Mandir premises in Ayodhya. The area after the Nirmali Kund intersection comes in the Cantonment area and is a high security zone. The Guptar Ghat of Saryu river also comes in the Cantonment area where thousands of tourists come every day.
