Hitting out at Congress strategists Union Water resources Minister Uma Bharati said that UPA has “ill-treated” Bihar ki beti in the forthcoming Presidential election and fielded Meira Kumar knowing well that she will lose election.

“The strategy of Congress-led UPA has baffled me. They have fielded Meira Kumar knowing well that she has no chance to win election. UPA leadership tried to play emotional card by calling her as `Bihar ki beti’ but this ploy will not cut much ice,” Bharati told reporters here on Sunday.

Uma Bharati was in lucknow to attend the meeting of the NDA’s presidential candidate Ramnath Kovind with NDA’s legislators and MPs from Uttar Pradesh. The meeting was held at 5, Kalidas Marg, official residence of Chief Minister.

She even congratulated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for questioning UPA’s choice of Meira Kumar as Presidential nominee. “He (Nitish Kumar) is right when he said that why Congress has fielded `Bihar ki Beti’ to only lose election. When Congress was in position to elect its President why this `Beti’ was discarded,” she said and added that these questions make sense and Congress and its friends should give a reply.

“The Congress fielded Meira Kumar because NDA had fielded Kovindji as its presidential candidate. The UPA knew if they had not fielded a dalit face its partners might had voted for NDA’s candidate. BSP Chief Mayawati had given that signal, she said

She said that Ram Nath Kovind was a good choice as a President of India and no questions should be raised about his integrity.

Another Union Minister Anupriya Patel said that victory of NDA candidate is assured. He has enough numbers under his belt. “This contest will be like a walk in the park for the NDA candidate,” she said.
