Uloom issues 'fatwa' for misuse of koranic verses

The Darul Uloom (waqf) Deoband has issued a Rsfatwa’ (religious edict) terming the use of Koranic verses as ringtone of the mobile phone as Rsharam’ (forbidden).  The Koran is for seeking guidance not for ringtone or caller tone as full verse is never played in phones and it changes the meaning of the verse if used as ringtone, said the Fatwa issued by Mufti Arif Kasmi, Ustad of Darul Uloom (Waqf) Deoband. The Darul Uloom has reiterated this stance about mobile phone after similar Fatwas was issued by the clerics of Saudi Arab.

RsRsKoran is for reading, understanding and lead the life as per the principals laid by the holy book. It’s not meant for use in mobile phone as caller tone, ringtone, alarm tone or use in any other modern gadget. It’s RsTauheen’ (insult) of the holy book and the Islam.’’, said the Fatwa.

RsRsA person using the mobile phone goes to several places during the day and also goes to the toilet. Its prohibited in Islam to read Koran in an unclean place so unintentionally a muslim user of the mobile phone is causing disrespect to his religion and the holy book’’, said Mufti Kasmi addingRsRs many people are ignorant about the teachings of the Koran and out of their over zeal for their faith they sometimes do things which are not in accordance with the teachings of Islam’’.

Use of the RsAzaan’ (call for prayers) as ring tome or caller tone in mobile phone is also bad. RsRsIts not Rsharam; but bad as the call for prayers is issued only five times a day for the daily five prayers while mobile phone could ring any number of time during the day’’, said Mufti Arif Kasmi.

Mufti Kasmi said as in the RsHindu Dharma’ also   listening or reciting half or incomplete Rsmantra’ is not considered good, in same way it’s bad to hear or recite incomplete verse of Koran.
