UCC: Congress will protect interest of countrymen, says Tiwari

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari, on Sunday, said the Congress would fully protect the interest of 140 crore Indians in the monsoon session of Parliament by opposing implementation of uniform civil code (UCC).

“Congress will not allow any attempt of the Central government to succeed at any cost to play with the sentiments of all the communities of the country, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians, for electoral gains,” Tiwari asserted here on Sunday.

“The interest of the country has always been paramount for the Congress and on the contrary, the Bharatiya Janata Party has always been trying to weaken the country through the politics of polarisation for electoral gains,” Tiwari said.

He said that before the government brought out the draft of the proposed uniform civil code in the monsoon session, the viewpoint of the Congress and the opposition parties over the issue should come to the fore.

Clarifying the agenda of the Congress and the opposition in the monsoon session of Parliament, Tiwari said the issue as to how Manipur was burning today due to the irresponsible attitude of the BJP at the Centre and the state government would be prominent.

He also said that the Congress would also raise questions in Parliament on the political dishonesty of the BJP government to influence the visit of party leader Rahul Gandhi to Manipur. “Along with this, the Congress will prominently raise in Parliament how the Modi government has insulted the Scheduled Caste woman president of the country at the inauguration of the new Parliament House.

Tiwari said that even at the time of laying the foundation stone of the new Parliament House, the prime minister had neglected the then President Ram Nath Kovind because of his extreme political ambition.

Apart from this, in the monsoon session of Parliament, Congress, the main opposition party, will strongly oppose the actions of the Modi government against the opposition leaders by misusing the CBI and ED after the opposition meeting in Patna, Bihar, he added.

Tiwari said the opposition would strongly raise the issue of the unconstitutional, unauthorised dismissal of a minister in Tamil Nadu by the governor. Besides, he said, the Congress would highlight how the Modi government had failed to control the skyrocketing inflation and unemployment.

Tiwari claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had maintained a silence on the issue of China. He said that due to the lack of will power of the Modi government, the economy of the enemy country was ever increasing due to the sale of Chinese products in the country.

He said the situation on the India-China border was also on the agenda of the Congress in the coming monsoon session.
