Within 24-hours of mysterious death of under-trial who said to have committed suicide after being depressed with his arrest in false case of rape, two more prisoners of the same jail also died in separate incidents.
The death toll now reaches to three but still the senior officers took no cognizance of the matter and just completed the laid norms of ordering a magisterial probe into the matter.
According to fresh reports, the body of under-trial Sudhir Kumar(30) was was found hanging from a ceiling in the prison here on Friday evening. Jail authorities claimed that he committed suicide. Sudhir was arrested in a case of attempt to murder in Muzaffarnagar on September 1.
Agitated with the incident, Sudhir's family has also staged a dharna alleging a foul play into his death. Dharam Singh, Sudhir's father, has complained to the District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma that his son was murdered and not suicide as claimed by the jail authorities. Sudhir's wife Rajini also took part in the protest outside the DM's office.
In another incident, 40-year-old Kalla, undergoing his sentence in the district jail in a case of illegally possessing arms, died under mysterious circumstances after being taken to District Hospital on Friday evening. In this case the local jail authorities claimed that Kalla was a patient of tuberculosis. He was found in unconscious state on Friday after which he was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The body of both Sudhir and Kalla were sent for post-mortem examination.
It may be mentioned that on last Thursday also, an under-trial accused in a rape case, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling in the bathroom of a barrack also inside district jail at Muzaffarnagar. local police send his body for post-mortem examination while a magisterial probe has been ordered to look into the incident.
Sumit was arrested in rape case reported from Kudana area and lodged in Muzaffarnagar district jail on October 23 last. On Thursday evening, some inmates found his body hanging with a ceiling of bathroom. They informed the incident to jail superintendent who rushed and called the doctors but the victim was already dead till then.
Jail officials claimed to have found a suicide note in which Sumit claimed that he decided to end his life as he was arrested on fake charges of rape. The family members also alleged excesses by police and claimed to have demanded that the rape charges should be first probed but still the cops completed the formalities and send the victim to jail without going into the truth.
