In the wake of coming Lok sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah has appointed two ministers of Uttar Pradesh government, Mahendra Singh and Swatantra Deo Singh, as election in-charges of two states.

Rural Development Minister Mahendra Singh will be the in-charge of Assam while Transport Minister Swatantra Deo Singh will be election in-charge of Madhya Pradesh along with Satish Upadhyaya. Both have a long experience in party organisation.

Mahendra Singh was earlier in-charge of north-east states in the 2014 parliamentary elections while Swatantra Deo Singh was the party’s national general secretary and played a pivotal role in strengthening the BJP in Bundelkhand.

Meanwhile, Govardhan Jhadapia has been made in-charge of Uttar Pradesh. Dushyant Gautam and Narottam Mishra will be his deputies.

Jhadapia is from Gujarat and was Home Minister when Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of that state.

BJP national vice-president Dushyant was national convenor of Scheduled Castes Morcha while Narottam Mishra is from Madhya Pradesh and was minister in Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.       State BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey welcomed the party’s decision to appoint Mahendra Singh and Swatantra Deo Singh as election in-charges.

“Both will ensure the party’s victory in states where they have been made in-charges,” Pandey said in a written statement issued in Lucknow on Wednesday.

Pandey also welcomed the appointment of Jhadapia, Gautam and Mishra as in-charge of UP in view of elections, saying under their leadership, the party would win 73 seats in UP.
