Shahjahanpur was rocked by another sensational double-murder when two brothers were brutally beaten to death by a group of 12 people in Dokri Kalan village on Wednesday night.
Surprisingly, the police dumped the incident as a case of old enmity and said a case had been registered and efforts were on to arrest the assailants.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramanad Pandey said on Thursday that a dozen persons, all armed with lathis, attacked two bothers —Vijendra (55) and Bhusi (48) — when they were sleeping in a hut in an agricultural field. The victims were taken to a local hospital where doctors pronounced them brought dead.
The assailants are residents of the same village and had a dispute with the brothers, Superintendent of Police Yash Chinnapa said, adding that it appeared to be a case of enmity.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem and a search was launched to arrest the assailants.
In another incident in Bhadohi, a 65-year-old man was killed over a land dispute at Madhupatti village in Survaya area on Thursday.
Police said Vijay Kumar sustained serious injuries after being attacked by Rajendra and his two sons, Rajesh and Surendra, who were his neighbours.
Kumar was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The body was sent for post-mortem and the three assailants were arrested, according to a police officer.
In another incident, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her lover and his friend in Chitrakoot district, police said Thursday.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening while the girl was heading home and the two men abducted and raped her, Assistant Superintendent of Police Balwant Chaudhary said.
The girl was let off on Wednesday morning on the condition that she would not tell anyone about the incident, the ASP said.
Later, an FIR was registered by the girl’s father and she was sent for medical examination which confirmed rape, the police officer said.
The girl had an affair with one of the persons named in the FIR, Manikpur police station in-charge KC Dubey said.
Efforts are on to nab the accused, he added.
Meanwhile in Jaunpur, three people were killed when the car in which they were travelling collided with a truck near Shivpur village under the Madiyahon police station, police said Thursday.
The victims were identified as Vikas Vishwakarma (23), Dr Dinesh Vishwakarma (35) and Sunil Kahar (22), ASP (City) Anil Kumar Pandey said.
The incident took place near Shivpur Baba Dhaba on Wednesday night. All the victims died on the spot.
