Twelve persons were killed and 10 injured in separate road accidents across the state during the last 24 hours.
In a tragic incident, a woman, her daughter and grand-daughter were killed after the motorcycle they were travelling on was hit by a truck in Kolhi area of Maharajganj on Thursday afternoon.
Police identified the deceased as Kamla (55), her daughter Sheela (35) and grand-daughter Anamika (5).
The person riding the bike sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable.
Police registered a case and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
Investigation are on.
In another tragic accident, a young couple and their two sons were killed while another person was injured when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle in Bhadohi.
In the mishap near Maharajganj in Aurai town of Bhadohi district, Virendra (30), his wife Somari Devi (27), sons Arpit (6) and Ajit (5) died on the spot while one Dinesh Bind (26), who was with them, sustained injuries. Bind was admitted to hospital.
The truck driver managed to escape along with the vehicle after the mishap.
Police registered an FIR and were looking for the driver.
In Amethi, two persons were killed and another seriously injured when a speeding SUV hit their motorcycle in Gauriganj area.
Police said the mishap took place near the Panga curve on Wednesday evening when the SUV hit the motorcycle, leaving rider Awadesh (20) and one of the two pillion riders Anil Kumar (22), both residents of Panga village, dead.
Police said the trio were travelling without helmets. The SUV driver fled the scene after the accident.
In Muzaffarnagar, one person was killed and fours others were injured when their car fell into a ditch near Khatoli.
The victims, all members of the same family, were returning from Haridwar when the accident took place on Delhi-Haridwar national highway on Wednesday evening, police said.
The deceased was identified as Jugal Kishor (40), a resident of laxmi Nagar in Delhi.
The injured were admitted to a hospital.
Two persons were killed and three injured when a roadways bus mowed them down in Turra village in Banda district.
Police said the mishap occurred on Wednesday when the bus mowed down some people walking along roadside.
lalla (40) and Acchelal (35) were killed on the spot. The three injured were admitted to a hospital.
The bus driver and conductor managed to flee, leaving behind the vehicle.
