Tussle over hegemony between two caste groups which was marked by exchange of indicriminate fire led to a triple murder in Hamirpur on Monday night. With the situation spiralling out of hand, additional force from neighboring police stations and PAC were pressed into service and deployed to avert any exigency.
SP Hamirpur, Ratan Kumar Srivastava said that while the situation was tense, no further incident was reported and efforts were being made to net the culprits.
As per reports, a group led by Amar Singh of Sargaon hamlet of Machigawa have been lording over the rival Brahmin populace in the area for some time. To stamp their authority, the former group brutally assaulted some Brahmins in December last year. When the victims lodged a case in this connection, Amar Singh had threatened them with their lives.
On Monday night, Amar Singh backed by over a dozen of his cronies attacked the Brahmin group which saw both parties engage in intense gunfire. Three villagers identified as Ram Kishore (50), Raj Kishore (40) and Ram Badhai (28) died on the spot while some others received injuries.
After terrorising the villagers, the miscreants escaped before the police reached the spot. A case was registered and efforts were being made to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile in Moradabad, a girl was gang-raped while a woman and her son died in a mishap at Banda.
As per reports, Seema (name changed) of Chetram area of Chajlait (Moradabad) went out to collect mud to spruce up the walls of her house on Monday evening. While she was returning home, she was intercepted by her neighbours Pankar, Girjesh and Gyani. The trio dragged her to a secluded place and gang raped her. A case was registered and efforts were on to nab the accused.
In Banda, Sunita (26) of Shahpatan locality of Kalinjar was preparing food in the wee hours of Tuesday, when a fire broke out inside her kitchen which soon spread to the other parts of the house . Since her 9-month old son Saurabh was trapped inside the house, Sunita rushed in to save him but before she could reach the kid, the roof collapsed over her in which she and her son died. A case was registered in this regard and bodies of both were send for post-mortem examination.
