Bahujan Samaj Party suffered a huge jolt on Monday when senior leader from Bundelkhand and in-charge of party affairs in Jharkhand and Bihar, Tilakchandra Ahirwar resigned from the party.

In an e-mail to BSP chief Mayawati, the veteran leader quoted poor health for resigning from all posts  on Sunday. However, party sources claimed that Ahirwar was upset over the party’s eroding base in the state and no corrective mesures coming from Mayawati in this regard. The sources further claimed that Ahirwar was also unhappy after he being sidelined for the last few months.

Ahirwar worked for more then three decades to strengthen the BSP in the state particularly in Bundelkhand. He was made district president in 1996 and 2002 and also contested from Babina Assembly seat on a party ticket but lost. He also remained as in-charge of Jalaun and later of Delhi before being given charge of Jharkhand and Bihar.

Meanwhile, the BSP expelled two leaders, including former Purkazi MlA Anil Kumar, for alleged anti-party activities in Muzaffarnagar. Besides, BSP co-ordinator Dr Purshotam was expelled from the party on the directions of the party brass. Purkazi is one of the five Assembly seats in Muzaffarnagar district. Kumar was elected as the BSP MlA from there in 2012 Assembly elections.
