The Yuva Morcha of the BJP has decided to hold statewide cricket tournaments from January 11 in its efforts to bring the youth under its umbrella with an eye on the coming 2014 lok Sabha polls.

The national president of the Yuva Morcha Anurag Thakur said at least one team each would be formed from all the districts thereby making a total of 80 teams. The final tournament of these teams would be held at a later date. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Thakur said youth were particularly fond of cricket and hence it would be comparatively simpler to connect with them through the game.

"It is unfortunate that a player like Sachin Tendulkar has retired from the game," he said and added that he hoped that his place would soon be filled up. Giving details of the party’s programmes, he said the Morcha would celebrate former Prime Minister and the party’s stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday on December 25 as “School chale hum” campaign. Under this slogan, the party workers will visit the schools in rural areas and create awareness among the students by informing them that if a tea-seller can become a prime ministerial candidate (Narendra Modi), then why not themIJ

Thakur opposed dynastic rule in politics and said it was one of the main reasons for deterioration in the political system. Hitting out at the Congress national general secretary Rahul Gandhi, he said it was by now proved that no one paid heed to Rahul. He said the Congress would be wiped out in the coming lok Sabha elections.

He went on to say that despite the fact that the UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was his good friend, he had disappointed the people who wanted to know who was the real Chief Minister of the state, Akhilesh Yadav or Mulayam Singh Yadav or Ram Gopal YadavIJ “Worse still, Akhilesh is publicly pulled up by his father Mulayam,” he said and added that despite all this Akhilesh had failed to show any improvement.

The Yuva Morcha chief described Akhilesh Yadav as a complete failure since he had failed to check riots, incidents of rape  and law and order situation had dipped to an all-time low due to his lacadaisical attitude. He said another youth leader, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, was reduced to being a “twitter CM”.

The Yuva Morcha chief was in the state capital to address a meeting of the members. However, he was disappointed at the thin attendance of the members and pulled up the youth wing state president Ashutosh Rai for his slackness. Thakur directed the state president of the youth wing to gear up for the lok Sabha elections.
