The State Assembly witnessed noisy scenes when the Treasury bench moved a censure motion against the leader of Opposition and BSP member Swami Prasad Maurya for his objectionable remark against Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey.
Maurya during the Question Hour had remarked that the Speaker was biased and always tried to protect the Ministers, when they fail to reply. The statement irked the ruling Samajwadi Party members and they demanded a censure motion against the leader. The proposal to move the said motion came from Ambika Chaudhry.
BJP leader Satish Mahana and Congress legislature party leader Pradeep Mathur too supported the Treasury bench as state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Azam Khan said the incident was unfortunate and a strict action by the Speaker should be taken to maintain the decorum of the House. But Peace Party leader Dr Ayub came in defence of Maurya and said that the statement was not made intentionally and there was no need for moving such motion.
Maurya, who was not in the House after making the statement, rushed into the House when the proposal for motion was being discussed. He felt sorry for his words and said these were not intended to hurt Speaker or demean Speaker’s chair. Pandey accepted the apology of Maurya and said that he will delete the objectionable words from the proceedings of the House.
