Amidst the uncertainty looming large over the fate of the Congress led UPA Government paving the way for the possibility of the lok Sabha election to be held during the on going year instead of next year, the proposed two day working committee meeting of the state BJP has drawn the attention of the political observes in wake of the preparedness of the party in the most populous state which has 80 lok Sabha seats and is considered most vital for the saffron party if it reaches out anywhere near to form the next government at the centre.
The state working meeting of the BJP will take place in Chitrakoot on April 3 and 4. Prior to this as usual the meeting of the state office bearers will take place on April 2, to set the agenda for the two day conclave. Besides, the national president of the party Rajnath Singh and former President Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, the senior leader lal Krishn Advani will also participate in the meeting.
This will be the first working committee to held under the stewardship of the state party president Dr lakshmikant Bajpai and the assessment of his performance and selection of the state office bearers along with the chairpersons of various frontal organisations will also come under the scanner. It may be recalled that the voices of rsentment have been raised inside the party soon after the announcement of the committee of the state party office bearers.
However the micro analysis of state party president Dr lakshmikant Bajpai appears insignificant to a large extent as the focus of the working committee will remain on the coming lok Sabha election. The successive defeats of the BJP in 2004 and 2009 lok Sabha elections had been greatly attributed to the performance of the party in Uttar Pradesh. The saffron party could bag only 10 seats on the both occasions while it used to win over 50 seats during the lok Sabha elections held during the last decade of the last century which played the decisive role in bringing the BJP led NDA to power at the centre.
Though the party had been claiming that it was getting prepared for the coming lok Sabha election but unlike the parties like SP and the BSP it appears for away in run up to the cause. While the SP and the BSP had declared more than 90 percent of their lok Sabha nominees BJP is yet to take up any exercise of that sort. What is even more troublesome is the speculations about the senior leaders of the party changing their seats thus creating confusion not only rank and file but even among the electorates.
Under the circumstances all eyes will be on the state working committee to see whether it moves any resolution regarding projection of Prime Ministerial candidate prior to the electioneering. The party insiders claim that even majority of the rank and file in the state were in favour of Gujrat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the proposed Prime Ministerial candidate, in the presence of the aspirants like l.K.Advani and Rajnath Singh it seems a remote possibility that state leadership will dare to move in this direction. During the last few years, the events like the working committee meeting have done little or almost nothing in reversing the electoral fortune of the party and now it will be seen whether Chitrakoot proves to be a link in the same chain or goes otherwise.
