The UP government reportedly extended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur’s suspension for a further period of six months.
The officer’s wife Nutan Thakur confirmed that an order of December 10, 2015 issued by Principal Secretary (Home) Debashish Panda said that the Civil Service Board had reviewed her husband’s suspension and found that there were extremely serious charges in his Departmental Enquiry and a probe by Vigilance department, for which he needs to be kept under suspension.
On the basis of these charges, there was a very strong possibility of his being dismissed from service, hence his suspension order was being extended for 180 days from October 10, 2015.
Earlier, Thakur had challenged his suspension in the lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, on the grounds that his suspension had not been reviewed inspite of 150 days having passed. The HC on Wednesday directed him to present his case before the Ministry of Home Affairs (Government of India) so that the Union ministry could decide the issue within three weeks.
Reacting to the state government order which she claimed to have received only on Wednesday evening, Nutak Thakur called it illegal claiming that the review should have been carried out within 90 days and now it cannot be done with effect from a previous date.
