IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, who was recently suspended by the State government, had came strongly against the State Ombudsman, alleging that the investigation completed against him by lokayukta N K Mehrotra is not only a complete farce but it has also shaken the foundations of the august office.
Thakur said that Mehrotra claimed that he had disproportionate assets which need CBI and ED enquiry but surprisingly neither he nor his father, mother, wife or brother were given any opportunity to be heard and Mehrotra falsely stated that the property is own by him or his family members.
He further said that Mehrotra’s conduct was completely against the dignity of the lokayukta and prove his biased work and conduct. That is why the moment he filed a petition in High Court in lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on 24 August, Mehrotra immediately sent a half-baked report in great hurry to the chief minister.
Thakur said that he has already challenged the lokayukta report in the High Court on Thursday seeking quashing of this illegal report. He would also take appropriate legal measures against Mehrotra. Thakur also said he has many evidences of corrupt practices by Mehrotra in his 7 year tenure and shall soon be seeking CBI enquiry in those allegations.
It may be mentioned that Thakur faces further trouble when the Mehrotra, after being reportedly challenged by the IPS officer in the High Court for carrying out probe, send his recommendations along with all evidences which came before him to the chief minister, asking to make an open vigilance enquiry against the officer. Besides, the State ombudsman also requested to recommend the matter to Centre so that the issue should be probed by the sleuths of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as well as by the Anti-Corruption Wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). lokayukta recommend to initiate proceedings against Thakur under relevant sections of IPC, Prevention of Corruption Act, Money laundering Act and UP Cooperative Society Act and if charges are established than to prosecute him in the matter.
