Rajya Sabha member and senior Congress leader Pramod Tewari charged the BJP of promoting horse trading by planting extra candidates in the on-going polls for the Rajya Sabha and State legislative Council.
"By forcing an election for RS and Council, the BJP has once again exposed its real face and put a big question mark on its 'Chaal, Cherha aur Charitra," asserted Tiwari.
Taking to media persons in lucknow on Monday, Tewari said that by supporting Independent candidate Preeti Mahapatra in the
RS polls in UP, the BJP has encouraged corruption for which it will never be forgiven and the masses will teach the party a lesson in the coming Assembly polls.Tiwari said that all official candidates would win comfortably and Independent candidates would be decimated.
"The numbers are in favour of SP, BSP and Congress. Besides, the BJP's official candidate can comfortably win the seat," he opined.
"But how can the BJP which could not manage 10 Independent MlAs to support the candidature of Mahapatra, forcing BJP members to fill the required quota, think of a victory," querried Tewari. He said that the tactics of the BJP to purchase MlAs will remain a dream for them.
To ensure that the quota of votes remain intact till the last moment, Tewari warned that any crossing voting in Rajya Sabha could amount to disqualification from the House.
"Though voting in Rajya Sabha does not amount to disqualification but I want to remind legislators of the recent development in Uttrakhand. Any anti-party activity even outside the House in ground for disqualification," he pointed out.
"If an MlA votes against the whip and the party complains to the Speaker, then that MlA could be disqualified as open vote would prove that he had supported candidate of another party which comes under the purview of Anti-Defection law," Tewari clarified.
Meanwhile, political activities for the RS and Council polls in UP picked up with poll managers of respective parties wooing the legislators. In RS, there are 12 candidates for 11 seats while in the council there are 14 candidates for 13 seats forcing the elections.
