A day after the  NDA government at the Centre  announced its commitment to introducing a Bill in the Parliament for restoring reservation in promotion to SC / STs, the anti-reservation front of UP government employees and teachers have warned of going on a lightning strike is the Bill was at all introduced.

Sarvajan Hitay Sarakshan Samiti, the outfit heading the anti-reservation stir has demanded  from PM Narendra Modi to clarify the stand of the Union government on this issue. .

President of the Samiti Shailendra Dube said in lucknow on Tuesday that deep resentment prevails among the 18 lakh state employees and 6 lakh teachers over the statement in Parliament by a Union minister.

He said the moment the Constitution Amendment (117th) Bill is introduced, the state employees and teachers would proceed on lightening strike. The Samiti which held a meeting here on Tuesday condemned the statement of Union minister Thavar Chand Gehlot in this regard.

Dube said that the BJP in its manifesto before the 2014 lok Sabha polls has made no such promise of bringing a Bill for restoring reservation in promotion for the SC / ST.

The leaders said, “For ending the controversy created by the Union minister’s statement, the PM should  clarify the government stand and assure that nothing will be done to nullify a Supreme Court verdict which quashed reservation in promotion.’’

Dube said that the Supreme Court by holding the reservation in promotion as unconstitutional has upheld the principle of seniority and merit in state services. “The state employees will never accept any attempt by the NDA government to nullify the Apex Court verdict by amending the Constitution,” he warned.

The leader said that High Courts of seven states UP, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Punjab and Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir have quashed the law for reservation in promotion.

“Not only general category state employees and teachers are opposed to the move, but the OBCs are also against the move of reservation in promotion. A meeting of the state committee has been convened on May 11 to chalk out a strategy for an agitation,” Dube informed.
