In a sensational broad daylight incident, a 22-year-old woman teacher was abducted by a gym trainer and his accomplices who came in an SUV in Nawabganj area of Gonda district.
Police said an FIR was registered against the suspect who had been identified as gym trainer Prashant Singh.
Nawabganj Station House Officer Tej Pratap Singh said that the locals spotted the teacher going on an e-rickshaw on Sunday evening when the SUV came near it and pulled the teacher into the vehicle. The two other friends of the teacher tried to save the victim but the SUV driver pushed them and managed to escape with the victim.
"Some of the locals immediately informed the police but the registration number provided by them was found to be incorrect. However, based on the colour and make of the SUV, police teams traced the vehicle to be heading towards Ayodhya," Singh said.
The mother of the woman teacher lodged an FIR against the accused.
"We have made three teams to trace the accused," Singh said.
The police officials of neighbouring districts were alerted to help Gonda police in tracking down the SUV and the abducted teacher.
Meanwhile in Bareilly, the local police finally swung into action in case of the alleged gang-rape of a class 7 student.
Following protest by some Hindu outfits, the Bareilly police on Monday claimed to have added the sections of gang-rape, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 120B of the Indian penal Code in the FIR.
Senior Superintendent of Police of Bareilly Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj, has also ordered an inquiry into the negligence of the local police, including Station House Officer Shitanshu Sharma. The inquiry will be conducted by the ASP Saad Mian Khan.
Pankaj also confirmed that two accused identified as Shahrukh and Uvaish were arrested and efforts were on to nab remaining two accused, Nadeem and Rizwan.
The gang-rape of a class 7 student of Bithri Chainpur came to light on Saturday. The girl's father claimed that the accused kidnapped his daughter from the school gate on Friday morning.
The next day, information was received about the student's presence at Shahdana. When relatives arrived, it was found that the girl had come home. The student narrated the ordeal to her mother at home.
She revealed that on Friday, when she reached the school gate, the accused Uvaish, Nadeem and two other Muslim youths dragged her in a vehicle and sprayed some chemical following which she lost her conscious. When she regained consciousness in the evening, she saw that she had been taken hostage. After this, the four accused raped her. When she protested, they tied her hands and feet and stuffed a cloth in her mouth. The next day the accused escaped and she somehow freed herself and reached home.
Even after the statement of the student, the police registered only a case of kidnapping. On this, Hindu organisations created a ruckus and demanded stern action. They demanded that action be taken on the basis of the statement given by the victim. When the matter reached the SSP, he immediately intervened and added relevant sections in the FIR and also formed teams to arrest the accused besides instituting a probe into the police role.
The medical examination of the girl student could not be done on Sunday. She was presented before the Child Welfare Committee. Further action will be taken against the remaining accused on the basis of the outcome of the medical examination of the victim, claimed police.
