Showing his commitment of zero tolerance towards corruption, the Yogi Adityanath government got the Secretary of Examination Regulatory Authority Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay arrested after his role surfaced in the leakage of Uttar Pradesh Teacher’s Eligibility Test (UP TET) 2021 paper.
Earlier on Tuesday, Upadhyay was placed under suspension after being found prima facie guilty of not maintaining confidentiality and failing to maintain the integrity of the examination.
On Wednesday, Sanjay Upadhyay was called for questioning by the probing Special Task Force officials and after several hours of quizzing, he was taken into custody in Lucknow before being taken to Noida.
Earlier, the STF team had arrested Rai Anoop Prasad, director of Delhi-based printing company RSM Finserve Limited. Prasad was called for questioning by the STF on the basis of suspicion after which he was arrested. Rai's company got the contract to print the question papers of the UP TET on October 26.
As per STF sources, the suspicion deepened during the interrogation that Prasad was involved in the UP TET paper leak. His company was given the work order by Sanjay Upadhyay even when his press was unsecured, due to which the paper leaked while carrying it to the centres.
ADG (STF) Amitabh Yash said that Sanjay Upadhyay was arrested after hours of questioning related to the TET paper leak. Sources said that Rai Anoop Prasad told investigators that Upadhyay issued an order to his company even when he was aware that papers would be printed in unsecured press. The two -- Upadhyay and Prasad -- were found to have violated the secrecy protocol while getting the examination papers printed.
A case was registered against RSM Finserv Limited director Rai Anoop Prasad, and several others under Gangster’s Act at Surajpur police station of Greater Noida.
The Uttar Pradesh Teacher’s Eligibility Test was conducted on November 28 and its paper leaked before the commencement of the exam, due to which the exam was cancelled. More than 21.65 lakh candidates were going to appear in this. The state government took the matter seriously and initiated a probe.
