Ranjit Patel, husband of suspended BSP MLA Sushma Patel, joined the Samajwadi Party in presence of Akhilesh Yadav here on Saturday.
Patel lost the election from Pratapgarh Sadar assembly constituency 2017 as Bahujan Samaj Party candidate while his wife Sushma won the election from Mungra Badshahpur seat in Jaunpur district on BSP ticket.
Along with Ranjit Patel, his father Dudhnath Patel and mother-in-law Savitri Patel also joined the SP.
Sushma Patel was suspended from the BSP after she met Akhilesh Yadav along with her husband ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in UP in October last.
Sushma, after her suspension, had said that there was no fault in meeting any leader and she would continue to work for the people and meet anyone she liked.
Four other BSP MLAs had also met Akhilesh Yadav during that period and were suspended from the party by the BSP high command.
