The reality check carried out by Samajwadi Party through a survey carried out by observers could give sleepless nights to Mulayam Singh Yadav as the reports suggest inner bickering in the party and the failure of its cadre to connect with the masses.
Majority of Samajwadi Party leaders -cum observers who were sent to the 26 districts to review the functioning of the party before the 2017 assembly polls have submitted their report to party’s national general secretary Prof Ram Gopal Yadav on Monday.
“The observers presented a gloomy picture of the organisation particularly in the Assembly segments represented by the first timers,” a senior leader said.
According to senior Samajwadi Party leader most of the findings suggested inner bickering in the party and failure of the leaders to connect with the masses. The reports also talked about first timer MlAs who were not active in their constituencies. The observers opined that in contrast to first timers, ministers have done well and have carried out development in their constituencies.
“These first timer legislators have failed to connect with the public and could lose the next elections if this trend continues. They are more interested in show-off then actually doing work at the ground,” one observer told The Pioneer on Monday.
The report also said organisation needs to be strengthened in most of the districts and achievements of the state government should be propagated among the masses.
“It was pathetic to know that some places leaders do not know about the welfare schemes government had launched. They even do not know that pathological tests are free in the state-run hospitals. This shows we have failed to take the message of good governance down up to the village level,” he said.
However, most of the observers gave a general view of the region and did not name any individual in their report.
The 26 observers were sent to the district mostly in eastern UP to get a first hand report of the ground realities. They went to these districts between October 26 to 30 and were asked to submit their reports on November 1.
The party representatives, had to face severe protests in Bahriach and Deoria, when clashes were witnessed between rival groups.
