Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati came in for sharp criticism from two national political parties-Congress and Bharatiya Janta Party. Uttar Pradesh Congress while attacking Mayawati claimed that she was shedding crocodile tears on the name of the victims of Muzaffarnagar riots and spending crores of rupees for holding a mega rally in the state capital on Wednesday.

“BJP, BSP and SP are just making mockery of the democracy and trying to take political mileage from the Muzaffarnagar riots but they are not interested in the welfare of the victims there,” said UP Congress spokesperson Maroof Khan here. He questioned why leaders like Mayawati, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Narendra Modi are avoiding to visit Muzaffarnagar. Reacting on the much hyped BSP rally in the state capital on Wednesday, Maroof said that the funds spent for the rally could have been spent on the welfare of the victims of the Muzaffarnagar riots. He blamed that since 1989 after Congress lost the power in the state, development has gone on back-foot and these religion and caste based political outfits have taken the state in the era of backwardness.

Former Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi also accused BSP president and former state Chief Minister Mayawati of celebrating her birthday with a great pomp and show. “Ms Mayawati thinks that without cutting the birthday cake is enough to mark the occasion in simplicity,” Ms Joshi alleged while talking to media persons. ``In actual, Mayawati spent a hefty sum on the rally organised on her birthday and ahead of the lok Saha elections”, she alleged. The former UP CM would have spent the same amount on the Muaffarnagar riot victims and the needy people reeling under the severe cold, the Congress leader asserted. Ms Joshi further hit out at the BJP and the ruling Samajwadi Party for misusing money on rallies by setting aside the plights of the people. She asserted that the Congressmen want to have party vice-president Rahul Gandhi as their Prime Ministerial candidate,

but the party high-command will take a call on the issue.

Meanwhile state unit of BJP also reacted strongly and claimed that Mayawati’s address in the BSP rally proves that they are afraid

of the popularity of Narendra Modi and have indirectly accepted

defeat in the coming lok Sabha elections. “ The statement of Ms Mayawati during the rally itself is an evident proof that BSP has concede its defeat in the elections,” said UP BJP president laxmikant Bajpai here on Wednesday afternoon. Addressing media persons, Bajpai also launched the party programme of one vote-one Note, for fund for Modi’s PM in the state on the occasion. He said BJP workers will go before the 10 crore voters of the state to seek their support for Modi and a donation of Rs 10.  He said that BSP and SP are supporting unconditional the UPA-11 government but on the other hand they are criticizing the Centre every time.” It shows their double face before the people,” he alleged. laxmikant said that the people of the state have already rejected BSP in the 2012 assembly polls for their corrupt practices and incompetent governance.

Meanwhile, the BJP leader alleged that the law and order in the state has reached its peak and quoting media reports said that during the past fortnight, there were reports of 66 murders, 34 rapes, 9 kidnappings, 131 loots and 94 cases of hooliganism by SP workers in the state.
