Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board said that it would strictly comply with government guidelines for battling COVID-19 like lockdown and social distancing during Ramzan.
This decision was taken by the Sunni Waqf Board after Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi directed mutawallis and management of waqfs through video conferencing on Friday to ensure compliance with lockdown and social distancing during Ramzan.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Sunni Waqf Board said that it was the foremost duty of Muslims, especially mutawallis and management of waqfs, not to allow gatherings in any institution for sehri or aftari, taraweeh and other prayers. It also advised them to ask people to perform prayers at homes and motivate others to comply with government directions.
“It is our joint responsibility to carry out and comply with orders of the Union and state governments. If any mutawalli fails to discharge his duties, then he would be accountable for the lapse,” said Sunni Central Waqf Board Chief Executive Officer Syed Mohammad Shoeb.
