No fresh violence was reported from Karhal locality of Mainpuri on Saturday even as the police registered a case against 150 people in connection with arson and attack on cops and arrested 20 odd locals so far. Heavy police contingents continued to patrol in the area to maintain peace.
As per reports, a Peace Committee meet was called on Saturday to esnure normalcy in the area. The meeting was attended by DM Chandrapal Singh, SP, Rakesh Shanker, other officials and locals from both communities. The DM appealed to the people to help in bringing peace and harmony back and warned that stern action will be taken against the troublemakers.
A rumour of illegal cow slaughter led to a police raid on Friday which was attacked by locals and arson and violence followed. Two cops were taken hostage and later heavy police force rushed to the area and ensured their release and shifted them to hospital. later a case was registered and police force was deployed in the area to avert further clash.
