Strengthen party for polls, says Mayawati to BSP functionaries

Bahujan Samaj Party chief and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, on Friday asked senior party functionaries and workers to further strengthen the organisation to ensure victory of the party in the coming elections, including the next parliamentary polls.

She gave this direction while reviewing the work with BSP office-bearers and leaders of nine states here on Friday morning.

In a meeting with the senior functionaries of BSP state units of nine states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha, Mayawati asked them to get ready for the political ups and downs and concentrate on strengthening the party organisation besides increasing its mass base. In order to provide momentum, she instructed the leaders to work with full honesty and sincerity.

Mayawati highlighted the caste and communal situations in these states, especially in Bihar where, she said, a tussle was on between Janata Dal (United) and Bharatiya Janata Party alliance leading to political instability. She said due to the political instability, common life and rural development were greatly affected. She asked the leaders to go amongst masses and expose the failures of the present governments and appraise them of the `Sarvjan Sukhai-Sarvjan Hitai’ motto of the BSP so that people supported the party in the next election.

Mayawati mentioned, among other things, the election of the first woman from tribal society, Droupadi Murmu, to the post of the President of India with the full support of BSP.

“The support Murmu received is a matter of great satisfaction. But with this alone, crores of Dalits, most backward and minorities in the country will not get freedom from poverty, backwardness, casteist exploitation, contempt, injustice and atrocities,” she said.

The BSP chief said it was well known that earlier the Congress and now the BJP also were trying to become the champions of these with symbolic gestures. “But the position of these classes in terms of real interest, real welfare and self-respect has remained unchanged even after 75 years of Independence. The condition of these classes has gone from bad to worse,” she added.
