To address the CM’s concern and thwart misuse of Rssocial media’ to disturb communal harmony in UP, a core group comprising top cops has been set up on Wednesday.
“During a review meeting of zonal IGs and range DIGs in lucknow on Wednesday, some senior officers raised the issue of misuse of social media to run hate campaigns during festive season before DGP, Jagmoihan Yadav,” disclosed IG (law and order) A Satish Ganesh. who was present during the meeting.
To meet the challenge, the DGP has decided and formed a core group of officers comprising ADG (law and order), ADG (Technical services), ADG (Traffic), IG (STF), IG of Anti-Terrorists Squad and IG (Crime). The team will prepare a concept paper as to how one can check problems arising out social media,” Ganesh added.
The DGP moove is understood to be a sequel to the serious cognizance of misuse of social sites to disturb communal harmony by CM, esp[ecially in the light of the Agra incident. The DGP was reportedly asked to provide a Rsplatform’ through which anyone could pass on information of mischief and necessary follow-up action could be taken. The CM had also endorsed invoking of the National Security Act (NSA) against teh mischief mongers.
Meanwhile detailing the core group, IG (law and order) said that a lot of homework has been done, but a lot was still left. “The focus would be to identify places where law and order situation has been vitiated due to misuse of social media. The police response, probe and steps needed will be assessed in detail.. The secondary focus will be capacity building and training of manpower. The third stress will be on launching counter offensive,” said Ganesh.
