Strange it may look but crime statistic of last two decades released by State police on Friday evening showed some surprising facts like murders in the State reduced to less than half in 2012 than what reported in 1992. Interestingly, the population in the last two decades almost doubles to what it was in 1992 and people even feel more insecured now in comparison to 20-years back but still the crime figure of almost all sensations crimes pointed a drastic fall. Even the figure of riots is much more than reported now. However, the crime against members of fairer sex showed some upward trend than compared to two decades back.
As per data released by IG (law and order) RK Vishwakarma on Friday evening, total 10559 murders were reported in 1992 and the trend almost remained same in 1993, 1994 and 1995 with 10589, 10776 and 10634 murders respectively. However in 1996, murder figure showed a declining trend with 8500 murders and this trend continued till 2003 when just 5284 murders were reported in the state. In 2004, the figure showed some upward trend with 6126 murders but again in is went on declining and in last two years i.e 2011 and 2012, 4951 and 4966 murders were reported respectively. In 2008, 2009 and 2010 this figure remained around 4500 killings. likewise attempt to murder were 9804 in 1992 and remained around same in next three years but later it also declined and in last two years this figure remained on 4653 and 4811 cases respectively. The lowest figure of attempt on life was in 2003 when just 3793 cases were reported.
The cases of riots also showed similar trend. In 1992 state witnessed 10604 riots which reduced to 9273 in 1993, 9592 in 1994 and 7918 in 1993. It continued to remaining declining with just 5022 cases reported in 2011 and 5676 in 2012. The lowest figure was in 2003 when just 2251 riots were reported while between 2007 till 2010 this figure remained around 4000 cases. Cases of robbery was also 7591 in 1992, 6683 in 1993 but in last two years it was just above 3100 cases. Similarly cases of burglary which were 18400 in 1002, 17541 in 1993, 16882 in 1994 reduced to just 5165 in 2011 and 6187 in 2012.
However crimes against members of fairer sex showed some upward trend. like cases of rapes which were 1757 in 1992, 1787 in 1993, 2078 in 1994, 1808 in 1995 and 1854 in 1996 later showed declining trend in 2003 this figure remained to just 911 cases. However later it showed upward trend and reached to 1563 in 2010, 2042 in 2011 and 1963 in 2012. Kidnapping of women and girl which were 2550 in 1002, 2522 in 1993 and 2737 in 1994 rises to 7525 in 2010 and 7910 in 2012. Eve-teasing cases which were 154 in 1995 and 118 in 1996 rises to 2310 in 2010 and 1463 in 2012. Cases of cruelty by husband or dowry deaths also showed rising trend in last two decades.
Interestingly if one goes by the crime figures, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) led government in 1992 showed maximum numbers of sensational crimes. Even maximum riots were also reported during this period. Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party combine government 1993 and 1994 also showed similar trend. However, during BSP regime in 2007, 2008, 2009, the crime remained in control. Even during Presidents rule in 1995, the crime remained very high just like earlier governments led by BJP, BSP and SP. However, during next Presidents rule i,e 2003, the crime figure remained lowest in last two decades with just 5284 cases of murders, 3793 cases of attempt on life, 1988 cases of robbery, 4016 cases of burglary, 9111 cases of rapes, 1499 cases of kidnapping of women and girls, and 2251 cases of riots.
