Buoyed by the success in Bihar Assembly polls, the UP unit of Janta Dal (United) has decided to float a grand alliance (Mahagthbandhan) with secular parties sans Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) or Samajwadi Party (SP) to usher in an alternative in UP’s realpolitik.
This was stated by JD(U) state chief Suresh Niranjan Bahiyaji at a meeting with the party’s leaders and workers at the party headquarters on Tuesday. He exhorted party workers to make aware the masses of the state about Bihar’s political success story.
“The people have discarded the policies of the Union and UP governments. We should strengthen our organisation by working hard, taking up public grievances and if need be agitate for them,” pointed out Bhaiyaji.
The JD (U) leader said that the Up Assembly polls were a over year away and the party workers and leaders should start preparaing for the battle of the ballots right now.
“The farmers are suffering in the state. They are yet to get the compensation for crop damage they suffered due to untimely rain and drought. There has been no help from the state government for facilitating the community with irrigation facility for sowing. They have been deprived of electricity which makes irrigation in the rural areas difficult, Also cane growers have not been paid their arrears despite an order from court. All these affect the largest community of the state and we will take these issues to the ruling party’s camp,” he stressed.
later a proposal to form alliances with secular parties was passed in the meeting and the participants entrusted the JD (U) state president to decide the future course of action.
The meeting was attended by state general secretary Subhash Pathak, Amin Khan, Diwakar Singh, Pradeep Yadav, Dr Manju Verma, Urmila Singh and others.
