With an aim to connect NRIs with their roots in Uttar Pradesh, the Akhilesh Yadav government is organising three-day Uttar Pradesh Pravasi Diwas from January 4 in the Taj city where state government showcase government’s initiatives to connect Indian diaspora with their villages.

“Chief Minister will confer ‘U.P. Apravasi Bharatiya Ratna Awards’ to NRIs of Uttar Pradesh origin, who have excelled in their profession or field of activity abroad and have contributed to the development of State,” he said.

Saran said that first Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) would be dedicated to public by during this programme. New MRC has been set up at lucknow in U.P. Financial Corporation office, which is also the nodal agency for NRI department, he said.

Significantly, around 200 NRIs of U.P. origin have registered formally to participate in this programme. Representatives of industry and business are also expected to partake in U.P. Pravasi Diwas, in which the U.P. government would project its initiatives for the welfare of NRIs as well as government’s development agenda.

State government officials will be available for one-to-one interaction if any delegate wishes to clarify or discuss anything, Saran said.

The state will also showcase its flagship infrastructure and industrial projects under implementation as well as traditional handicrafts and delicacies of Uttar Pradesh. The exposition would comprise the major achievements and economic developments across sectors, including modern infrastructure projects, such as lucknow-Agra Expressway, lucknow Metro, Metros in NOIDA and Greater NOIDA, Trans-Ganga City at Kanpur, Sarasvati Hi-tech Township in Allahabad, Solar Parks in Jalaun and other places, IT City in lucknow, the integrated industrial cities of NOIDA and Greater Noida and the upcoming hubs of electronic manufacturing.

Saran informed that a number of eminent personalities, industry captains, venture capitalists and film makers had been invited to speak at the sessions in UPPD.

Additionally, a host of private investors, who are setting up their projects in U.P., will also be there with their exhibition

The event would be marked by festivity and cultural evening on the opening day. On the second day, different sessions would be organised for dialogue and interaction with NRIs with focus on engaging with Diaspora, investment in U.P., developmental activities in the State, soft-power, health and education as well as Girmitiyas.

It is pertinent here to mention that a distinct U.P. NRI department was established in July 2014 with the aim of providing support and facilitate services for any issues that the NRIs might face abroad or their kin and families at home in the State. Through the department, the State government is working towards collaboration of technological, managerial and financial strengths of the U.P. NRIs for mutual benefit.
