With an eye on the Assembly elections, the Akhilesh Yadav government has decided to impart free IAS / PCS coaching to children of those parents whose annual income is up to Rs 6 lakh. Earlier the limit was only Rs 1 lakh and included children of only SC / ST and OBC categories.
Social Welfare minister Ram Govind Chaudhary said that the government has formulated a new scheme under which the annual income limit of parents has been raised from existing Rs 1 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
“The existing scheme was not bearing any fruit because the children, whose parents’ income was Rs 1 lakh were not that bright. I have no hesitation in sasying that their basics were very weak. So, children from these state-run centres were not able to crack civil services examinations,” he told 'The Pioneer' on Wednesday.
The minister said the issue was discussed at length in the department and then decided that the income limit of parents be increased. "There is a suggestion that this facility should be thrown open to poor candidates too. But CM Akhilesh Yadav will take a final call," he said.
