Uttar Pradesh Congress on Friday charged the state government with cheating the public in the name of signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with companies having a shady past and involved in corruption. The party said that a probe already pointed that how a huge money was swindled by the government in the name of beautification of the district to celebrate Investors’ Summit and make it a ‘mega event’ but no action was taken against the guilty.
Accusing the state government involved in large-scale corruption in organising the Investors’ Summit, state Congress spokesman Sachin Rawat on Friday cited an example of an MoU with a Gomti Nagar-based company in the name of facilitating employment and promoting tourism in the state. Rawat alleged that the state government signed an MoU of Rs 1,500 crore with KC Infrabuild Pvt Limited, situated in Cyber Heights Tower in Vibhuti Khand in Gomti Nagar. The MoU was made in the name of facilitating jobs for over 2000 youths in the name of constructing five-star hotels in eight pilgrimages – Ayodhya, Naimisaranya, Mathura, Vrindawan, Shrawasti, Kushinagar, Sarnath, Kaushambhi, along with Dudwa National Park and also for facilitating air connectivity of these places with the state capital.
Rawat said that it was strange that the state government did not even check the credentials of the aforesaid company before signing the MoU. He said that in 2017, the general manager of Canara Bank in Alambagh had made a complaint to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), informing them that the above mentioned company had cheated them of Rs 12.38 crore as loan. The CBI made the probe and after initial findings, they registered the case against the company with their Delhi office.
Rawat added that even officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had made a query with the company after they learnt that by entering into the MoU with the state government, the company was once again started borrowing money from other companies in the name of getting a government contract. However, even after learning about the above mentioned facts, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath or his minister took no pain to initiate action against the company. Demanding a probe into the matter, the Congress leader said that it is strange that when the District Magistrate and SSP had to give their clearance about the credentials of the company before signing the MoU, how the above facts were overlooked by the state government. He said that a high-level probe should be made about the financial status of all companies with whom the state government had signed MoUs during Investors’ Summit and that the government should present a ‘White Paper’ on the floor of the House during the coming Winter Session of the state Assembly so that the truth could come out before everyone.
