Ruling party legislator Ravidas Mehrotra created an embarrassment for the Akhilesh Yadav Government when he said that Government has failed to implement the Samajwadi Pension scheme.
“The state government claims that 40 lakh families have been given enrolled under Samajwadi Pension scheme but in a reply to my question social welfare minister Avdesh Prasad said that total beneficiary of this scheme is 33.35 lakh,” Mehrotra told reporters at central hall of the state assembly on Thursday.
He said this means 6.65 lakh people are yet to be enrolled for this scheme. “The high point is that recently Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has claimed that total number of beneficiaries would be 45 lakh. When Government cannot identify 40 lakh beneficiaries how it can extend the benefit to 45 lakh families,” he asked.
The legislator even questioned Government’s decision to terminate the services of teacher who filed PIl that made High Court to make it mandatory for children of officials and politicians to study in government schools.
''I have an information that UP government is likely to challenge the HC order but such thing will only earn a bad name for a socialist government," he said.
Mehrotra said that the Samajwadi Party always fought for common education system but if the government now challenges the court order it would mean that we are going against our guided principles.
''I will certainly oppose any move of the government to challenge court orders," he said.
He also cornered his own government over police attack on the media house. “Such an incident under the nose of the government is shameful. The criminals are having a field day in the state and now they are attacking the fourth estate," he said.
