Former State Congress President, Rita Bahuguna Joshi warned the leaders of Bharatiya Janta Party to remain cautious while using derogatory remarks against Party president, Sonia Gandhi, otherwise the Congressmen would not spare them. The agitated Party workers, who were annoyed with the statement of Subramaniyam Swamy, also burnt the effigy of the BJP leader in front of Party’s state head-quarter in Mall Avenue, on Friday evening.
Reacting strongly to the statement of Swami, which he made during a progamme organised at Sangeet Natak Academy on Thursday, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who is also spokesperson of the All India Congress Committee, alleged that the remarks were derogatory and highly objectionable, if used for any women of the country. ``For cheap popularity, Swami had stooped to the lowest levels of indecency. He talks of Indian culture and religion but shows utmost disrespect for the women who were respected world over for her grace, dignity, sensitivity, tenacity and leadership qualities”, asserted Joshi, while claiming that Sonia’s love for the country is undisputed.
Flaying Swamy for the remarks, Joshi warned the entire BJP leaders that in future if anyone dare to use such objectionable remarks against Sonia Gandhi, than the Congressmen would not spare them. She reminded Swamy, that it was Sonia Gandhi who always fought for women empowerment and gave the country’s first women president and even first lok Sabha Speaker.
Criticising Swamy further for his remarks of making changes in history in the course books, Joshi said that Narendra Modi had already done it in Gujrat and now Swamy is making the same in the country just to promote Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) motive of creating a divide in the country which would not be tolerated by any true Indian. ``Political Parties do not write History but it is created by itself so let the BJP not make changes in the Indian history under the influence of RSS otherwise we would not sit idle and will launch a countrywide agitation”, threatened Joshi while also condemning RSS claims that every Indian is a Hindu. ``We all are Indian or Bharatiya but RSS claims that we all are Hindu is nothing but another efforts to promote communal disharmony and make political gains out of it just what they did in recent Parliament elections”, alleged Rita while adding that such issues has been raised by the RSS and BJP just to divert the people’s mind from failure of Narendra Modi’s government to fulfill dreams of `Achche Din’(good days), as claimed by Modi during his elections speeches.
Meanwhile, State Congress leaders also staged a dharna in Basti to pressurise the government to fulfill the demands of cane growers and also to clear their pending dues. Speaking on the occasion, state president, Nirmal Khatri, who is leading the protest as AICC general secretary, Madhusudan Mistri, did not turned up for the show, said that Samajwadi Party government had failed on all fronts and the farmers are the worst sufferers. Khatri said that if the demands of cane growers would not be met and their dues were not cleared, than the Congress would spread it’s agitation in the coming days. On Saturday, the Congress would hold similar agitation in Muzaffarnagar.
