Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Start UP India' has encouraged a practising dentist to become an entrepreneur in the field of alternative energy by designing a unique portable solar panel which can give both AC / DC power to light up rural homes in power-starved UP.
Dr Ajay Kumar, a dentist who completed BDS from renowned KGMU in lucknow, designed a new solar panel device with the help of his friends from IIT Kharagpur and Mumbai.
“This solar panel is need of the hour in UP where power plays truant frequently. The unique panel can charge laptops, and can also run mosquito repellents, CD players and Radios/FM through its AC output," Dr Kumar said while talking to 'The Pioneer' on Sunday.
He said it could be one of the first solar panels to take just five hours to charge and has a 12- hour backup. The best part is that the panel and the dry battery is one unit and can be packed in a brief case and carried anywhere.
"This solar system could be good for anyone going to rural areas, picnic and keeping it for emergency during the time of load shedding," he said.
The dry battery life is around 2 yrs and the solar panel needs change only after 20 years. The panel can take load up to 80 watts.
Dr Kumar said that the price of the entire system is Rs 12,999 which includes one lED bulb and a DC table fan. Besides, the customer also gets Rs one lakh accidental insurance for five years. However, the BPl card holders will get a subsidy of Rs 500.
