Timely action by sleuths of the Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB)reportedly saved many lives as they rescued large number of victims soon after the train accident at Chureb Railway Station at Sant Kabir Nagar and rushed them to hospitals in the adjacent districts.
Giving above information here on Tuesday evening, Inspector General (SSB) lucknow Frontier, Avinash Chandra, claimed that response time always played a very important role during such accidents like the one occurred as Sant Kabir Nagar on Monday morning. He claimed to have received a telephone call at around 11am from a village Pradhan who informed him that Gorakhdham express has met with accident and 05 bogies have got completely damaged at Chureb Railway Station.
Chandra said that he immediately directed DIG (Sector Hqrs Gorakhpur) Vikas Kumar Arora, to dispatch relief and rescue team for the accident site with team of medical officers with sufficient medicine. He also simultaneously directed to nearest Battalion Commandant to rush to the spot with available manpower for conducting of rescue and relief of victims of the ill-fated train.
Subsequently, the officials from 59th Bn and Recruit Training Centre and team of medical staff reached accident site. Almost 350 personnel of SSB, carried out rescue and relief works in a systematic and organized way. Chandra said that as SSB troops were one of the first rescue party to reach at the incident site, they could rescue large number of stranded passengers inside the mangled coaches. SSB troops initially recovered 20 dead bodies and rescued 35 wounded, stranded passengers. Some 50-75 wounded passengers, who were shifted to hospitals, the staff of SSB passed on the information of incident to their relatives.
Chandra said that since the SSB troops had been replenished with improvised lights arrangements like ASKA lights, dragon light, emergency lights, rescue works continued till night hours. Several victims have been sent by senior SSB officers to the hospital for treatment. He claimed that efforts of SSB team has been highly commended by the train passengers, their relatives, locals and district administration.
