Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Hriday Narayan Dikshit on Monday administered oath to Bharatiya Janata Party’s newly-elected MLA Purushottam Khandelwal, who won the bypoll to Agra North constituency by defeating Samajwadi Party’s Suraj Sharma by 60,000 votes.
The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of sitting BJP MLA Jagan Prasad Garg, who had won from Agra North constituency five times.
Khandelwal said, “I got overwhelming response during poll campaigning and was sure about the party’s victory. Efforts of party workers in gathering public support in a short time resulted in a large mandate.”
