Speaker adjourns Question Hour session as opposition demands debate

Published on:

Congress members created a ruckus in the Vidhan Sabha demanding an immediate debate on Bundelkhand forcing Speaker Mata Prasad to adjourn the Question Hour on Friday.

Even before the House assembled, Congress members were inside the Well of the House and as soon as the Speaker came, they started sloganeerrng and demanded the debate on Bundelkhand.

The members also carried banners which read: ‘Declare Bundelkhand as famine-hit’. They also asked the state government to waive off farmers’ loan in the Bundelkhand region

later, BSP members too joined their colleagues in the Congress for some time in the Well, but later they returned to their seats after being persuaded by the Speaker.

The Speaker repeatedly asked the Congress members to return to their seats. “Your party was in power for a long time at the Centre. At that time, you did nothing for the Bundelkhand region. Now you are asking for a debate on the region. Please do not make an issue out of it,” the Speaker advised.

Parliamentary Affair minister Mohammad Azam Khan ridiculed the Congress members saying, “Speaker sahib, please ask Congress members to raise slogans. This silent protest will not work. They should raise anti or pro slogans.”

The jest worked and Congress leaders started raising slogans. “Aur zor se … maza nahi aaya. Zor se,” encouraged Khan much to the delight of the Treasury members.

He also said that the budget details have been leaked from the government press. The CM will table his government’s budget and he will make some announcements on Bundelkhand. The Congress probably got to know about it in advance and are therefore raising the Bundelkhand issue now,” he said.

But when the Congress members refused to return to their seats, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12.15 pm.
