SP to organize rallies in 75 districts

In an attempt to resurrect itself after the crushing defeat in Assembly elections in March, Samajwadi Party will revive the old war cry `halla bol’ and organize rallies at 75 district headquarters on August 9. The rally will formally kick off the Samajwadi Party’s campaign against the BJP government in UP and the Centre.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav will lead the campaign and address a rally in Faizabad. The party has chosen August 9 - the day symbolic with `August Kranti’, when Mahatma Gandhi announced `Quit India’ movement against the colonial powers at the Bombay session of All India Congress Committee on August 8 1942.

The rally coined `Desh bachao Desh banao rally’ will target the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and Uttar Pradesh. SP sources said that the party was left with no option but to pick the gauntlet for its survival as the BJP after winning 325 seats along with its allies in the Assembly was posing a huge threat to the Samajwadi Party.

Resignation by two Samajwadi Party MlCs, their joining the BJP and the ap[prehension of many more queuing up to join the ruling party in future, has forced the SP to fight back and save its flock.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav will address a rally at Madna town near Faizabad. He will also unveil the statue of the freedom fighter Rajbali Yadav at the premises of an Inter College named after him. District SP chief of Faizabad, Jai Shankar Pandey said that a visit to Ayodhya was not in the itinerary of Akhilesh Yadav. He said that the rally will be held in the Inter College ground and that it would be the biggest ever rally in the history of Faizabad.

SP sources said the former CM will specifically target the Yogi Adityanath government in the rally. The party will raise issues of law and order, no relief to farmers out of the farm loan waiver scheme announced by the state government and hardships being faced by the minority community due to the crackdown against illegal slaughter houses.

For the Samajwadi Party, it’s a war like situation as the Yogi government has announced a series of probes against projects execcuted during the previous Akhilesh Yadav government.

The party is also rattled by CBI inquiry recommended by the Yogi government into all recruitments made by UP Public Service Commission during the SP regime from March 2012 to 2017.
