With the rise of a non Yadav OBCs leader from the most backward  Keori caste  Keshav Maurya as state BJP president,  the ruling Samajwadi Party has stepped up its campaign  ahead of the 2017 state assembly polls. The SP on Tuesday announced to launch another 10 day long campaign `cycle Yatra’ from May 1.

The cycle Yatra has been given the task to reach each and every village of the state during the 10 day long campaign.

The other  campaign `Gaon Gaon Akhilesh’’ with light commercial vehicles fitted with lED screen and publicity material launched in December last year is already underway  with aim to reach each and every village in 75 districts of the state before January 2017.

During the yatra, the party workers and leaders would reach out to the rural folks and tell them about the programmes and schemes and achievements of the state government. Bicycle is the election symbol of the Samajwadi Party and during the run of the previous 2012 assembly polls these bicycle yatras were the key component of the overall campaign by the Samajwadi party which ultimately succeeded in capturing the power by defeating the Bahujan Samaj Party.

Samajwadi party P spokesperson and Minister Rajendra Choudhury said here on Tuesday that the cycle yatra would commence on May 1 and will continue till May 10.  He claimed that the earlier the party had announced for this yatra to commence from April 18 but the date was postponed due to harvesting and other reasons. He said that the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, also the state president of the party, has directed all office bearers, legislators, former MPs, district panchayat chairman and other leaders to flag off these cycle yatras at their respective areas.

In each of the 403 assembly segments, there would be 10 bicycle teams in which each team will comprise of 15 leaders and workers who would visit five to seven villages daily to apprise the rural populace about the government schemes and policies.

"These bicycle teams would be equipped with publicity materials of the government and the programme in each village will conclude with a

public meeting. Each team would also stay in a village at least for one hour and will make a night halt in the last village of the day," said Rajendra Choudhury said.
