Eyeing the impending Urban local Bodies elections and by-poll to two lok Sabha seats in UP, Samajwadi Party intends to overhaul the organization and many heads are likely to roll.It is being speculated that a fourth of the district unit chiefs may get the axe.

The SP will reshuffle the organization through elections and elections of district chiefs across the state will be held on September 5. The party will depute observers in each district for supervising the elections.

Organizational elections are crucial for the party as after the crushing defeat in Assembly elections in March, the party is more than eager to regain lost ground and stregnthen the organization for the the next electoral battle. The impending elections of Urban local Bodies and two lok Sabha seats will be a crucial test for the Samajwadi Party.

SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said that several district and city presidents, former MlAs and former ministers remained indifferent towards the membership drive launched in April which concluded on June 15. He said that the SP chief has taken a serious view of the non-compliance of directives on the membership drive and those who ignored the directions will be shown the door.

Chaudhary further said that the party has also identified those district chiefs and office bearers whose performance in enrolling new members was far below the expectations and meeting the targets set by the party.

The spokesman said that active members enrolled constitute the electoral college for electing district presidents. Those district chiefs who failed to enroll the required number of members have already lost their claim to be reelected.
