Uttar Pradesh Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Azam Khan has hinted that the Samajwadi Party government could appeal against the decision of the Delhi court in the Hashimpura massacre case where all the PAS jawans were exonerated. “The court has not done justice even after such a long trial. UP government will appeal against the judgement. I too could go to the court on the issue," he told media persons in Aligarh on Sunday.

He also said on May 21, on the anniversary of the Hashimpura massacre, a candle light march would be taken out inn Delhi to protest against the court's ruling. “We want this issue should be highlighted so we want to use all the platform where we can enlighten people about this case,” Khan said. Earlier, a Delhi court had let off all the PAC jawans involved in the massacre on lack of evidences against them.

Hashimpura massacre took place on May 22, 1987, during the Hindu-Muslim riots in Meerut city in the state, when 19 personnel of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) allegedly rounded up 42 Muslim youth from the Hashimpura mohalla of Meerut city, took them in truck to the outskirts, near Murad Nagar, in Ghaziabad district, where they were shot and their bodies were dumped in water canals.

The Minister claimed that he had went to Hashimpura after two days of the massacre and helped the victims family. "But some people who do not know about the case and even cannot locate Hashimpura on map are now trying to take political mileage by showing their sympathy towards the victims," he said. When asked whether Amar Singh could re-join the party, Khan said with the change of time many things change. let’s see what happens,” he said.
