Samajwadi Party has flayed the Yogi Adityanath government for the delay in payment of dues by sugar mills to the farmers. It also criticised the state government for not announcing the state advisory price (SAP) of sugarcane.
SP President Akhilesh Yadav said on Monday that the BJP had made tall promises to the farmers like doubling their income but the conduct of the BJP government had proved that it was insensitive to the grievances of the farmers.
He said far from having doubled income, the farmers were reeling under the double whammy of inflation and low prices of agriculture crops in the market.
Yadav said the Yogi Adityanath government had not raised the SAP of sugarcane by even a rupee in the last four years. He said the SP government in 2012 had raised the SAP by Rs 40 per quintal.
He said the delay in payment of cane dues by the sugar mills had devastated the rural economy and presently over Rs 10,000 crore was still outstanding of the last cane crushing season which ended in May last year.
Meanwhile, the SP gave a notice to the UP Governor for holding the election of the chairman of UP Legislative Council. The SP has a majority in the Council with 51 members in the house of 100.
The SP had submitted a memorandum to Governor Anandiben Patel in this regard earlier but she appointed Manvendra Pratap Singh of the BJP as pro tem chairman of the Legislative Council.
