The ruling Samajwadi party has accused the BJP of double standards on national policy issues. The SP said the Prime Minister is pushing the agenda of development while his party members are busy in spreading hatred in society by issuing provocative statement.
The SP alleged that ever since the BJP came to power at the Centre, the government has been pursuing discriminatory policies and a particular ideology has been being imposed on the universities and prominent academic institutions.
SP spokesman Rajendra Choudhary said in lucknow on Tuesday that the PM claims to be a disciple of Dr Ambedkar and proclaims that reservation for the dalits will never be abolished, while the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is aggressively campaigning against the quota and asking for a review of caste-based reservations.
The SP leader said that the BJP was voted to power on the plank of development, but not even a brick has been laid so far in the state. ``The BJP cannot be trusted. Under pressure from the RSS, the ruling party at the Center can abolish reservation any day,’’ said the SP spokesman.
He said that lohia had advocated reservation for the SC, ST and OBCs as special opportunity for disadvantaged sections of the society while Dr Ambedkar found quota necessary in the larger interests of social harmony. The SP leader argued that the BJP which has poor track record of maintaining the democratic and constitutional dignity, is acting against the principals and values laid down by Dr Ambedkar and lohia.
Endorsing the recent statement of CM Akhilesh Yadav who had apprehended communal violence during the election year, the SP leader said, “CM’s suspicion was based on specific inputs and past record of the BJP in fomenting communal violence for political gains.’’ He said that the BJP left no stones unturned to cause communal inferno but its nefarious designs have been thwarted by the Chief Minister.
