SP slammed the reported move by BJP's government

The Samajwadi Party slammed the reported move by Bharatiya Janty Party’s government to replace some of the Governors appointed during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule, saying it was start of “saffronisation” of the country which was “dangerous” for democracy.

“Centre was trying saffronise the country by appointing RSS and BJP men as Governors in States. This is dangerous for democracy,” SP National General Secretary Naresh Agarwal said here on Tuesday.  The country is not the property of any party. All the

parties have right to put forth their views, he said, and alleged that it was a conspiracy against non-BJP governments in states. “The way in which resignations are sought from Governors, pressurising them, is not only start of saffronisation of the country but is also part of a conspiracy against governments of other parties in the states,” he said.

Supporting the views of the Naresh Agarwal, spokesman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC), Ashok Singh said that it was a direct attack on democratic set-up to force a person sitting of the constitutional post to resign.

``No politics should be made on post of governors or any other constitutional post and pressurizing them tender resignation is nothing but an attack on the democratic set-up”, Singh claimed while reacting on the resignation of State government Bl Joshi, who submitted his papers offering  to quit from the post. He said that it is better that BJP government  should wait for the governor to complete their term than new appointments should be  made to save guard the self-respect and dignity enjoyed by the persons sitting on constitutional posts. Interestingly, the UPA government also made similar move when they came to power in 2004.
