SP seeks martyred status for CRPF jawans

Demanding that the government should reveal the truth about the airstrikes after Pulwama attack, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on Tuesday that the government should declare martyred status to all the jawans died in the Pulwama attack and give them Rs 1 crore compensation each to the family of the martyred jawans.

“Every countryman wants to know the truth about the airstrikes but the government was diverting the issue and just trying to take a political mileage of the incident,” he said.

Addressing a press conference at Samajwadi Party office on Tuesday, Yadav said the entire country was with the army and there is no denying. “But the truth should come to the fore,” he stressed.

“I have studied in the military (sainik) school and several of my friends are in the defence. Some of them are even posted on the border and some are holding big position in the Army too. I know them well and they are patriot, fighting for the country,” he said while refusing to engage in the debate on the matter.

“If the BJP is really concerned about martyrs, then why they are hesitant in giving them martyred status to CRPF jawans and delaying to provide Rs 1 crore compensation to each of the family,” he demanded.

Attacking the BJP government, the SP president said that the government was taking credit of the surgical strike but it would have been better if the government had gone for a surgical strike on unemployment and farmers’ problem. He tossed a question before newsmen saying why the BJP did not go for a surgical strike on unemployment and woes of farmers.

“Let the BJP wait, people of the country will go for a surgical strike at the booths when voters will teach them a lesson,” he claimed.

In reply to a question on 10 per cent reservation to the upper class people, he said the government should issue government orders (GOs), one like it did for the reservation for upper caste, dalits, forest dwellers and backward class people too. He said the mahagathbandhan would strengthen the poor, farmers and unemployed.
