SP protest against CAA on Dec 19

Samajwadi Party will stage state-wide protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act at all district headquarters on December 19.

The party will also focus on other issues like unemployment caused by economic slowdown, rising crimes against women and farmer distress.

SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said here on Sunday that by amending the Citizenship Act, the Bharatiya Janata Party had dealt a severe blow to the secular foundation of the Indian Constitution and it was a brazen attempt to divide the nation on the line of religion.

He said the amendment to the Citizenship Act was fraught with serious consequences. He said this was nothing but a desperate attempt by the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to divert the attention of the people from pressing issues like the growing unemployment due to economic slowdown.

The SP spokesman said that policies like demonetisation of high value currency notes in November 2016 followed by implementation of Goods and Services Act in July 2017 had caused havoc on the economy, particularly on the unorganised sector.

He said millions of small business establishments across the country had downed the shutters due to demonetisation and GST   leading to job losses running into millions. He said the national economy had never witnessed such grim situation in last five decades.

The SP leader alleged that besides the GST and demonetisation, the economic policies pursued by the Narendra Modi government had made life miserable for the common man due to galloping inflation leading the steep rise in prices of food, vegetables and other essential commodities.
