Samajwadi Party MLA Subhash Pasi joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party here on Tuesday in the presence of the ruling party’s state president Swatantra Dev Singh.

The Samajwadi Party expelled Subhash Pasi from the primary membership of the party. The SP also expelled the MLAs wife Rina Subash Pasi from the party. She was a member of the executive committee of the SP women wing.

"SP MLA Subhash Pasi, his wife Rina Pasi today joined BJP in presence of party state president Swatantra Dev Singh," BJP state general secretary Govind Narain Shukla said.

Swatantra Dev Singh welcomed Subash Pasi in the party and said his joining would further strengthen the BJP.

Earlier in the day, Pasi, the MLA from Sadipur constituency in Ghazipur, was expelled from the SP for alleged anti-party activities.

Pasi, a Dalit, is a second time SP MLA from Saidpur assembly constituency and was an office-bearer of SP’s SC/ST wing.

Last week, BJP MLA from Sitapur, Rakesh Rathore, had joined the Samajwadi Party.
