The Samajwadi Party has lashed out at the BJP and the Congress for criticizing the Saifai festival terming them of having a myopic view of the state.
Terming the Saifai Fest as `extravaganza’ at the cost of the state exchequerm the BJP had criticised it and accused the government of being insensitive towards the plight of the farmers especially in Bundelkhand region.
The Congress too had questioned the wisdom of the government in spending tonnes of public money in a festival organised in the VIP district of the state.
Reacting to the charges on Monday, SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said that both the parties have run out of ideas and were making wild charges against the government. “The Opposition are deliberately linking the Saifai festival with issues like that of farmers to malign the SP government. This is negative politics,’’ said Chaudhary.
He said that festival is organized every year at Saifai by the Ranvir Singh memorial committee which is a registered body and its accounts are audited. He added that the festival promotes local folk culture and local people benefit from it. The SP leader stressed that the Saifai festival also gives an opportunity to local sports persons and artists to showcase their talents.
