SP is geared up to contest all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh

Unfazed by electoral failures in Gujarat and Karnataka Assembly polls, Samajwadi Party is geared up to contest all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls scheduled later this year.

"Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was on a three-day visit to Madhya Pradesh from May 18, during which he declared that the SP will be contesting on all 230 seats. This time the 'cycle' (SP symbol) will run in MP too," SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said in lucknow on Wednesday.

Akhilesh extensively toured areas in te neighbouring state bordering UP. He addressed the public in Sidhi and Satna districts of Vindhya region and also Khajuraho in Chhattarpur district of Bundelkhand.

"The SP will help the people of MP to get rid of the 15 years of BJP misrule. We will try to save the people of MP from BJP's conspiracy," Akhilesh said in one of his meetings in Madhya Pradesh.

"The SP chief emphasied that development could only take place in amicable atmosphere. BJP's hate and divisive politics weakens the foundation of democracy and affects development," Chaudhary said.

"The recent visit of Akhilesh Yadav got tremendous response from the people of MP.   The SP chief also tried to drive home the point that development which UP witnessed during his regime was 'elusive' in MP," the SP spokesman said.

In Gujarat Assembly poll, the Samajwadi Party contested five of the 182 seats while in recently-held Karnataka polls, it fielded 24 candidates. In MP, the SP is open to an alliance with Congress, but a decision in this regard will be taken ahead of the elections.

"People of UP and MP have many things in comon and frequently visit each other. They feel the difference when they visit UP. The performance of the Akhilesh government is being appreciated there and they are looking for the SP to enter the poll fray," Chaudhary said.
