SP chief’s comments on GDP far from reality: Minister

Published on:

The Uttar Pradesh government dismissed the comments of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on the GDP of the state as an attempt to create a false narrative and a figment of his imagination and far away from reality.

“The State Gross Domestic Product (SGDP) of Uttar Pradesh stood at Rs 12, 88,700 crore when Yogi Adityanath took over as Chief Minister. The economy grew at a rapid pace Rs 17,055,93 crore in 2020-2021 which accounts for 8.7 percent of  India’s GDP and second only to Maharashtra, an achievement in view of the fact that the Yogi government had inherited from the Samajwadi Party regime,” UP minister and government spokesman Sidarth Nath Singh said in Lucknow on Friday.

Singh claimed that the per capita income also rose significantly in the last four years in UP, despite the slowdown caused by the pandemic that impacted the economy globally.

“UP has become the favourite destination of the investors. The irresponsible and misleading statements of Akhilesh Yadav were nothing short of moral turpitude which were issued only to create confusion and misguide innocent people who have already rejected the caste and family-oriented politics of Samajwadi Party,” he said.

Singh further claimed that the UP’s economy achieved new heights under Yogi as investments since 2017 have been testimony of the fact that proactive measures of the state government brought in rich dividends.

“The UP Investor Summit in 2018 had MoUs of about 4.68 lakh crore out of which about 2 lakhs of the MoUs have already materialised. I'm surprised how a leader like Akhilesh can be so ignorant about the fact that it was during the Yogi regime that Uttar Pradesh made a quantum jump to rank 2nd in the country in Ease Of Doing business, a defined parameter of the conducive environment having been created for the investors,”' the minister stated.

Singh said that the network of Expressways, development of new airports and employment generation even during Corona times were for all to see. “During last year’s lockdown, foreign companies made a beeline to invest in Uttar Pradesh with an investment of about Rs 50,000 crore. Jewar international airport, proposed Film City in Noida, investments of Rs 50,000 crore so far in Defence Corridor are also some of the highlights which were conveniently ignored by the SP leader, whose politics was now  confined to issuing press releases from the comfort of his home.

The UP government spokesman further claimed  that the Yogi government kept its promise of providing four lakh jobs in various government departments during the last four years with an achievable target of a total of five lakh jobs by the end of calendar year 2021.
